Why Hoi An?

A charming port town with picturesque streets and waterways

As one of Southeast Asia’s former major ports, this charming town retains a sense of history in its pretty streets and narrow canals. Enjoy a walking tour of the town centre where you will visit the beautiful 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge, former merchants’ houses and vibrant markets. Spend time relaxing on the stretches of white sand beaches that are close by. In the evenings many restaurants, lounge bars, and boutique shops can be visited with the stunning backdrop of the Bon River illuminated by traditional lanterns.

Hoi An Highlights

Here we have selected a few of the sights and experiences that you really should see on a visit to Beijing.

Hoi An, Vietnam

The Japanese Covered Bridge

This beautiful bridge is emblematic of Hoi An as the original bridge was constructed in the 1590s by the Japanese community to link it with the Chinese area. Over time, the additions and replacements have remained relatively faithful to the original Japanese design.

Tan Ky House

Built two centuries ago by an ethnically Vietnamese family, this house has been lovingly preserved through seven generations. Look out for signs of Japanese and Chinese influences on the architecture.

Hoi An Old Town

With more than 800 historic buildings preserved, as encouraged by UNESCO, the Old Town looks like it did centuries ago. Wander around the ancient streets and admire the protected buildings, and maybe visit one of the 18 that are open to the public.

Hire a Bicycle

The best way to explore Hoi An and the surrounding countryside is by bike. They are easy to hire and help you see and experience things that you wouldn't otherwise, such as water buffalo and farmers working in the rice paddies. You could also cycle out to one of the local beaches for a refreshing swim.

Spend a Day on the Beach

Hoi An’s beaches are split into distinct areas and share one coastline. Whether you fancy parasailing and jet-skiing, cocktails and a sun lounger, or to get away from the crowd, there is something for all tastes.
