Why Chiang Mai?

A cultural paradise in Northern Thailand

Chiang Mai is located in a mountainous area of northern Thailand. A great base to plan trekking and rafting trips to hill tribe villages bordering Myanmar and Laos. It has a wealth of historic Buddhist temples to discover, some dating back to the 14th century. It is possible to take short excursions to elephant camps and join delicious cooking classes to create the best Thai curries.

Chiang Mai Highlights

Here we have selected a few of the sights and experiences that you really should see on a visit to Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai, Thailand

Explore the Old Town

The narrow streets of the Old Town area are lined with beautiful temples, old shops, houses and other historic buildings, surrounded by crumbling ancient walls and a moat. It’s quite a small, compact area, allowing you to easily wander around and enjoy the city’s relaxed atmosphere and interesting scenery.

Elephant Jungle Sanctuary

The Elephant Jungle Sanctuary prioritises the welfare of the animals, often acting as retirement and care homes for elephants previously employed in the logging or tourism industries, providing as natural an environment for them as possible. There are various ways you can interact with the elephants, such as bathing them, but riding on them is strictly out of the question.

Chiang Dao Caves and Karen Hill Long Neck Tribe

Boasting some of the most spectacular stalactite and stalagmite formations in the country, the Chiang Dao Cave stretches many kilometres into the mountains. The cave should be combined with a visit to the ‘Long Neck Karen’ ethnic hill-tribe. The women wear brass rings around their necks, wrists and ankles as part of their culture.
