A lively and engaging city with so much to explore

The capital city of Thailand, Bangkok, is an exciting, buzzing city, with plenty to see and do. Don’t miss the opulent Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew within its grounds which houses the revered Emerald Buddha dating back to the 14th century. Perhaps take a cruise on the Chao Praya River to see the city from the water and view the Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn). A visit to a floating market is highly recommended, or perhaps take a tuk tuk ride through the bustling China town district. There are also plenty of shopping opportunities in Bangkok and endless possibilities to sample the excellent Thai cuisine.

Grand Palace & Wat Prakeaw

The Grand Palace and Wat Prakaew, in the Old City, are two of the most iconic buildings in Bangkok. Built in 1782, and the home of the Thai royal family for 150 years, the ornate architecture Grand Palace is a sight to behold. Wat Pra Kaew is the temple where the Emerald Buddha, known locally as Phra Kaew Morakot, is to be found. This stunning sacred gilded Buddha statue is amazingly carved from a single emerald.

Wat Arun

The impressive silhouette of Wat Arun’s towering spires is one of the most recognised in Southeast Asia. Built in Khmer style during the first half of the 19th century, the stupa is decorated in a stunning glazed porcelain floral pattern. This is a must-visit site on any trip to Bangkok.

Visit the Floating Market

The ultimate Asianfloating market where dozens of wooden boats float by, each laden to the brim with fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers, direct from the smallholders' farms. Food vendors fill their crafts with pots and grills, selling their tasty bowls of ‘boat noodles’ and delicious seafood skewers.
