16 day Tour Itinerary
An overview of your trip
DAY 1 Fly to Colombo
Take a scheduled flight from the UK to Colombo.
- Transport: Airplane
DAY 2 Arrive Colombo
Arrive at Colombo International Airport, where you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Remainder of the day is free at leisure to relax, or perhaps explore Colombo’s interesting clothing, food and tea boutiques.
DAY 3 Colombo to Dambulla
Drive to Dambulla this morning, which is located in the Cultural Triangle, the central plains area which boasts an abundance of temple ruins and ancient cities combined with national parks and glistening reservoirs. The rest of the day is at leisure.

DAY 4 Dambulla
After breakfast, visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. The 5th century rock citadel of King Kasyapa is a World Heritage Site, and showcases ancient Sri Lankan engineering and superior urban planning skills, as well as being one of the finest monuments to art and culture. Step through the gigantic ‘Lion Paws’, overlooking the symmetrical royal gardens below, to appreciate the splendour that once dominated this rock fortress. This afternoon, explore the medieval capital of Sri Lanka, Polonnaruwa. Rising with the decline of Anuradhapura, the city was once the medieval capital and crown jewel of King Parakramabahu I. Walk across the scattered walls of the World Heritage Site, dotted with stupas, resting Buddha statues, irrigation canals and fantastically carved Hindu sculptures.

DAY 5 Dambulla to Kandy
Morning departure for Kandy, stopping en-route to visit the Rock Cave Temples of Dambulla, one of the largest and best preserved cave temple complexes in Sri Lanka. Located in the north central province, this UNESCO World Heritage Site dates back to the 1st century BC, and is an amazing labyrinth of five caves. In the evening, experience an exhilarating show of traditional cultural dances.

DAY 6 Kandy
Morning at leisure, or optional trip to the Elephant Freedom Project. In the evening visit the Temple of the Tooth in time for the “Pooja” ceremony. The temple is famous for its carvings and the beautiful art, unique to Sri Lanka.

DAY 7 Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
Following breakfast, drive to Nuwara Eliya, to visit a tea plantation and a tea factory where one of the best teas in the world is produced. You will be told all about the process of manufacturing tea and have the opportunity for a tasting.

DAY 8 Nuwara Eliya to Yala
This morning, set off for Yala. Arrive at your accommodation, and the rest of the day will be at leisure.

Note: During Yala Park closure from September to Mid October – All guests who have Yala National Park in their tour itinerary will either be taken to Udawalawe National Park, Bundala National Park or Block 5 of Yala National Park.
DAY 9 Yala
Today after breakfast you will embark on an exciting journey into the Yala National Park by jeep safari. Yala National Park is home to elephant, leopard, bear, crocodile and wild boar. The Park covers an area of 97,800 hectares, and is the second largest of Sri Lanka’s National Parks. Spend the afternoon at leisure.

DAY 10 Yala to Kalutara
Travel to Kalutara on the southern coast of the island and check in on arrival. The rest of the day is at leisure.

DAY 11 Kalutara
Day at leisure to relax on the beach

DAY 12 Kalutara
Spend time exploring the local area.

NOTE: The sample tour above is recommended for travel from October to April, with a beach stay on the south coast.
