16 day Tour Itinerary
An overview of your trip
DAY 1 Fly to Colombo
Take a scheduled flight from the UK to Colombo.
- Transport: Airplane
DAY 2 Arrive Colombo, Transfer to Galle
Arrive at Colombo International Airport where you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred to your accommodation in Galle.
DAY 3 Galle
Enjoy a city tour of Galle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is the port where the Portuguese first landed in Sri Lanka in 1505. See the well preserved 90 acre fort and ramparts built in 1663, and continue to the New Oriental Hotel, built for a Dutch governor in 1684, a colonial gem now converted to the internationally renowned Amangalle Hotel. In the afternoon visit the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, where conservation work is carried out to try to protect these endangered species.

DAY 4 Galle to Udawalawe
Today, leave behind Dutch architecture and drive to Udawalawe.

DAY 5 Udawalawe
Visit the Elephant Transit Home, which caters for juvenile elephants that have been orphaned, and raises them until they are four years old, before releasing them back into the wild at Udawalawe National Park. Enjoy an afternoon safari. As well as being renowned for its large herd of elephants, the park is also known for several species of Deer, Wild Boar, Wild Buffalo, Jackal and very rare sightings of Leopard!

DAY 6 Udawalawe to Ella
This morning head to the hilly region of Ella, one of Sri Lanka’s best kept secrets. Ella is a remote hamlet amongst the mountainous peaks of the island’s central highlands, and has some of the best hikes the island has to offer. Views of mist and cloud covering the summits of the mountain range and the morning sunrise in Ella are spectacular scenes to behold

DAY 7 Ella
Climb the Little Adams Peak which takes around half an hour. The walk is enjoyable and clearly marked as you meander through tea plantations and take in breathtaking views of Ella Rock, Ravana Falls and the endless valley below. Afterwards, continue to the famous Nine Arches Bridge, then visit the Ravana Ella Waterfalls, one of the widest waterfalls in the country.

DAY 8 Ella to Kandy
Travel to Kandy, the last capital of the Sri Lankan Kings and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Drive around Kandy Lake built by the last Sinhala King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, in 1806. In the evening you will visit the Temple of the Tooth in time for the “Pooja” ceremony. The temple is famous for its carvings and the beautiful art that is unique to Sri Lanka. Experience an exhilarating show of traditional cultural dances.

DAY 9 Kandy to Habarana
Transfer to Habarana, located in the Cultural Triangle of the island. The central plains area boasts an abundance of temple ruins and ancient cities combined with national parks and glistening reservoirs. Visit the Rock Cave Temples of Dambulla, one of the largest and best preserved cave temple sites in Sri Lanka. Located in the north central province, this UNESCO World Heritage Site dates back to the 1st century BC, and is an amazing complex of five caves.

DAY 10 Sigiriya Rock Fortress
An early start today as you set off to climb to the magnificent Sigiriya Rock Fortress, one of Sri Lanka’s most recognisable attractions and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This afternoon, drive to Minneriya National Park (depending on the elephant movement, you may visit the nearby Kaudulla National Park or Eco Park instead). The 8,890 hectares of Minneriya National Park consist of mixed evergreen forest and scrub areas and is home to favourites such as elephants and sambar deer.

DAY 11 Habarana to Trincomalee
Drive towards the east coast to Trincomalee, best known for its harbour, the biggest natural harbour in the world, which has seen the ships of the Portuguese, Dutch and British, among others. The rest of the day is at leisure, to perhaps relax on the beach.

DAY 12 Trincomalee
This morning, you will travel to Pigeon Island by boat, a great place for snorkelling and sun bathing. In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour of Trincomalee. Visit the World War II cemetery and Fort Fredrick. Built in 1624, the fort remains formidable to this day. Continue to the famous Koneswaram Temple, built atop ‘Swamy Rock’, a rocky promontory cape overlooking Trincomalee.

DAY 13 Trincomalee
Day at leisure to relax or explore the local area at your own pace.

DAY 14 Trincomalee to Negombo
Transfer to Negombo, a fishing village and beach resort north of Colombo. The rest of the day is at leisure.

DAY 15 Negombo
Enjoy a full day at leisure.

DAY 16 Fly to UK
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK.
