A relaxing beach resort

Just a short distance north of Colombo, Negombo is a beach resort with a selection of accommodation and golden sand beaches. It is also convenient for its proximity to the airport. Best for beach stays from October to April.

A famous fishing village with a Dutch-built canal which is a hive of activity with fishermen traveling up and down in their gaily-painted boats. On the shores of the canal you will find many homes and churches and many species of birds including spectacular Kingfishers.

Muthurajawela Marsh

Muthurajawela Marsh is a little-known wetland at the southern end of Negombo’s lagoon. If you take one of the boat trips, you'll have the chace to see some of the 75 bird species that are known to live here, including purple herons, cormorants and kingfishers, as well as crocodiles, monkeys and even some very rarely seen otters.
