Why Vientiane?
An intriguing city, one of the smallest capitals in the world
Located on the banks of the Mekong River, Vientiane is the smallest capital in Southeast Asia. The influences of Thailand and France can be seen in this laid-back city. A popular place to hang out in the evenings is the riverside where you will discover a selection of restaurants serving a variety of traditional Laos and typical French cuisine. It is also a great spot to watch the spectacular sun sets. A fun way of discovering the leafy backstreets and traditional eateries is on a cycling tour. The two most visited and impressive temples in Vientiane are Wat Phra Kaeo and Wat That Luang. Northeast of Vientiane you will discover That Luang (Great Stupa) which is the most sacred monument in the country. An intriguing morning excursion can be taken to Buddha Park where you will discover a spectacular collection of over 200 large concrete sculptures of Buddhist and Hindu deities.
