A popular hot springs resort, Yudanaka is famous for the Snow Monkeys that live in the area. A special outdoor bath was built for the monkeys, who have become one of the most photographed sights in Japan. Yudanaka also has many temples and historic buildings for you to explore.
Please Note: The best time to see the snow monkeys is during the winter (December-March). This is when the park and the surrounding area is at its most picturesque, covered in snow, and when the snow monkeys come down from the mountains for food and to warm up in the hot springs.

3 day Tour Itinerary
An overview of your trip
DAY 1 Tokyo to Zenkoji
Catch a bullet train to Nagano, where you will be met and taken to Zenkoji Temple for a one night stay. After settling into your accommodation, you will be treated to a typical monk’s dinner.

DAY 2 Zenkoji to Obuse and Yudanaka
Travel to the charming town of Obuse, the final home of the famous Japanese artist Hokusai, for some sightseeing. Continue by train to Yudanaka and check in at the ryokan, where dinner will be served.

DAY 3 Snow Monkeys
After breakfast, take the bus from your accommodation to the Snow Monkey Park (Yaen Koen). Created in 1964, the park is a conservation area where the monkeys are free to do as they please, including bathing in onsens. Return to the station for your onward train journey.
