Yudanaka is a hot spring resort, dating back hundreds of years, and is famous for some 200 Snow Monkeys that live in this area. A special outdoor bath was built for the monkeys, who have become one of the most photographed sights in Japan. Yudanaka Onsen has a long history as a hot spring resort, but there are also temples and historic buildings to discover. Shibu Onsen is located 2km from Yudanaka Station and boasts many ryokan hotels and hot spring bath-houses. The monkey springs are easily accessible from Shibu Onsen.

Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park
Watch the famous red-faced, Japanese macaques (snow monkeys) as they relax and bathe in the steaming waters of a natural hot springs, maintained just for them.
One of the oldest, largest, and most important Buddhist temples in Japan, Zenko-ji is the spiritual heart of Nagano. This registered National Treasure, the temple's almost 1400 year history is full of legend and myth, and is a sight to behold.
This region is Japan's second largest producer of 'sake', meaninga visit here is incomplete without sampling some of the local breweries.
