Why Sapporo?
Sapporo is the gateway to the island of Hokkaido
Sapporo is the largest city on the island of Hokkaido. Odori Park stretches from east to west in the centre of the city, and is a symbol of the city. To the south of the city you will discover a large underground shopping mall, which leads directly to Sapporo Station. This bright and cosmopolitan city is famous for its beer - a visit to the Sapporo Beer Museum is a great way to learn more about the city and its history, as well as enjoying its local brew. Sapporo played host to the 1972 Olympic Games and a selection of football matches during the 2002 Football World Cup. The city is also home to a Snow Festival each winter where giant snow sculptures are created and illuminated with different coloured lights. Sapporo is the ideal place to start your tour of Hokkaido.
