Why Nagano?
An important temple town in Japan
In 1998 Nagano played host to the Winter Olympic Games. It originally evolved as a temple town. Nagano’s Zenkoji Temple is one of the most important and popular temples in Japan. In the forested mountains northwest of the city centre lies the Togakushi area which attracts tourists with its popular shrines and as the legendary home of the Togakure Ninja School. This friendly town offers plenty of accommodation and enjoyable restaurants.
