Fort Aguada

Fort Aguada and its lighthouse is a well-preserved 17th century Portuguese fort in Goa, on Sinquerim Beach overlooking the Arabian Sea. The word “Aguada” means “watering place” in Portuguese. It was once the grandstand of 79 cannons. It has the capacity of storing 2,376,000 gallons of water, one of the biggest freshwater storages of the time. The upper fort comprises of Moat, an underground water storage chamber, light house, gun point room and bastions.

Fontainhas

Fontainhas is beautiful for its architectural design and its natural surroundings. It is bordered by the creek of Ourem and the Altinho Hill. Fontainhas, the city's oldest district, still maintains its Portuguese influence such as the narrow and pretty winding streets as found in many European cities, old villas and buildings with projecting balconies painted in the traditional tones of pale yellow, green, or blue, and roofs made of red coloured tiles.

Basilica of Bom Jesus

The Basilica of Bom Jesus is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and houses the remains of St. Francis Xavier. The Church is located in Old Goa, which was the capital of Goa in the early days of the Portuguese rule. Built in 1605, the facade of the church, though un-plastered, is a magnificent example of baroque architecture. The Basilica also contains a modern art gallery with paintings depicting various Biblical scene.
