It has a dramatic mountainous terrain and a picturesque coastline. Explore the capital city of Taipei before driving to the remarkable Sun Moon Lake, in the centre of the island. Visit the famous Foguangshan Buddhist Monastery, for the opportunity to converse with the monks, and discover the scenic Kenting National Park and the beautiful Taroko Gorge, the famous landmark carved by the Liwu River.

An overview of your trip
DAY 1 Fly to Taipei
Take a scheduled flight from the UK to Taipei.

DAY 2 Arrive Taipei
Upon arrival in Taipei, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore your surroundings and relax after your flight.
DAY 3 Taipei City Tour
Enjoy breakfast in the hotel before your half day city tour. Pass by the Presidential Office and visit the Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, followed by a visit to the Martyrs Shrine and the National Palace Museum. Stop at the Grand Hotel, one of the world’s tallest classical Chinese buildings and continue to a traditional Taiwanese Temple.

DAY 4 Taipei to Sun Moon Lake
After breakfast, your tour continues to Sun Moon Lake, situated 762 metres above sea level in the lofty mountains of Central Taiwan. Enjoy a tour around the Sun Moon Lake scenic area, stopping at Ita Thao Village, the famous Ci En Pagoda and the Xuanzhuang Temple. Continue to the Wenwu Temple, also known as the Literature-Warrior Temple, dedicated to Confucius, as Master of Pen, and to Kuan Ti, as Master of Sword. Then check in to your hotel where you may wish to relax in the natural hot springs.

DAY 5 Sun Moon Lake to Kaohsiung
Your holiday continues after breakfast to the Foguangshan Buddhist Monastery, the largest in Taiwan and the most famous sacred Buddhist place in southern Taiwan, passing the quaint, Jiji Railway Station, en route. Upon arrival at Foguangshan, a monastery walking tour will include the “Buddha Memorial Centre” and the chance to interact with some of the monks and nuns. Maybe treat yourself to a tasty Buddhist vegetarian lunch, before continuing to Kaohsiung, the second largest city in Taiwan. The tour continues to the Love River, the Liuhe Night Market and an overnight at Kaohsiung.

DAY 6 Kaohsiung to Taitung
Following breakfast, discover the Kenting National Park, located at Taiwan’s southern tip, where the 37 miles of coral-rimmed shoreline along three sides of the park provide its main attractions. Stops will be made at the Eluanbi Lighthouse, the Maobitou Coastal Scenic Area and Longpan Park, on your way to Taitung via the Southern Link Highway, for a night in Zhiben.

DAY 7 Taitung to Taroko
After breakfast, embark upon an exciting East Coast Tour. The East Coast National Scenic Area, known as “Taiwan’s last unspoiled land”, stretches 170 km down the east coast of the island. Weathering, erosion, and accumulation have produced a wide range of landforms here. You will make stops at Xiaoyeliu, Sanxiantai, Shitiping (Stone Steps) and a marble factory. Then in the late afternoon, continue to Hualien, for an overnight stay at the Taroko National Park.

DAY 8 Hualien to Taipei
After breakfast, visit the Taroko National Park. Taroko Gorge is an exceptionally beautiful, narrow ravine created by the Liwu River, which has cut deep into the solid marble mountains. The road, carved into sheer walls of rock, winds its way past forested peaks and cliffs towering thousands of feet above, while hundreds of feet below a river rushes past gigantic marble boulders. Stops will be made at the Swallow Grotto, and Changchun Temple (the Eternal Spring Shrine). Drive back to Taipei with a stop at Cingshui Cliff, navigating through the Syue-Shan Long Tunnel to arrive back in Taipei in the early evening. Overnight in
Taipei.

DAY 9 Fly to UK
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK
