A unique rail experience
The trains to Lhasa are specially built for high elevation environments and the operational speed is 120 km/h (75 mph), or 100 km/h (62 mph) over sections laid on permafrost. Accommodation on board is based on sharing 4-berth soft sleeper compartments, no meals are included, but are available on board. Signs in the carriages are written in Tibetan, Chinese, and English. The passenger carriages used on these trains are specially built with an oxygen supply for each passenger, to be used if necessary, and every passenger train has a doctor.
